good idea if you want someplace as liberal or maybe more so than Los Angeles, plus the cost of property, not as high as Los Angeles but climbing all the time.

There are so many reasons for leaving as you get older: cost of living is probably number one, followed by politics and traffic. Of course the problem with homeless and the immigration situation add insult to injury. Biggest reason for staying, as I see it would be family and weather.

Area however when you consider the cost of heating in the winter I’m not so sure. My relatives in MN so nd over $1000 on heating oil each winter. Also the older you get it’s harder to deal with ice and snow.

Sure Seattle and Portland proper are pretty liberal and expensive no doubt. Get 45 minutes to an hour outside either of those cities though and you have much more affordable property, and definitely more red politically if that's important.
