How long do you think it'll take until Downtown LA is "solid"? (Pasadena: hotel, houses)

Move the homeless to Orange County I keep saying. They cleaned up that river area and housed all of them. Lots of money to spend over there.

I hate to sound cruel and not empathetic, but when I see homeless people begging for money or wandering the streets talking to themselves or whatever it makes me extremely uncomfortable and annoyed. I know that the VAST majority of them are not a threat, but given that they are homeless and quite honestly dont have much to lose, I am always leery of them and think they could lunge on to you and bite you, stick you with a needle, spit on you, etc.... like a real threat. I just hate to see it. It's such a shame for LA too to be covered with homeless people. When my family first came to visit me...instead of enjoying all the amazing beauty and intricacies of the LA area, they were instead commenting on the amount of homeless people everywhere.

No one is forcing your family to visit. If it bothers them so much, then they shouldn’t come. Simple as that. And if it bothers YOU so much, then leave. Move somewhere with less homeless.

I don’t understand the parking lots comments. There’s no longer mass stretches of parking lots except near Staples Center...and there’s really no reason to walk in that area unless you are going to Staples or the convention center.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me. LOTS of the parking lots are gone due to buildings going up on those sites.

My job is here bro. Cute suggestion tho. Did it ever occur to you that there are cities larger than LA with less homeless ppl? Why can't we as a city fix this problem? Instead of moving away, as per your suggestion.

Because we have arguably the best weather in the world from Santa Barbara to San Diego so it’s unrealistic to believe we can ever solve this crisis. Think of it as a curse for being a very globally desirable place to recide, rich or homeless, doesn’t matter. If you want to be here bad enough you’ll make it workout and deal with the cons.

Given the way you describe 'solid' - DTLA is incredibly far off from that and it's unlikely anytime soon (who can predict what will happen to the LA economy decades down the road).

But it's changed so much already - even though it's still sleazy and run down in many place - there is lots of life in DTLA. Amazing restaurants, culture, center of transportation, and IMO - has TOO many high rise luxury condos! These buildings are ugly and don't fit into LA architecture at all - we need denser and more affordable housing.

There’s still a feeling of this city being car orientated suburbia. Most of the time the light rail system here takes 3 times longer than if you were to drive. If DTLA could merge with Koreatown along Wilshire and cap those freeways, that’d be great. Like I said I think we’re still 30 years off until that point. Sleepy downtown San Diego has a better chance of becoming ultra dense at a more rapid pace due to ocean geographic boundaries and the hills on the opposite side forcing development to be dense.

I spend half my time in downtown San Diego and I'm here to tell you DTLA is better, right now. You have subway and light rail, skyscrapers with sweet observation decks, The Broad, Chinatown right there. Someone would have to go look this up but I'll bet DTLA is denser in every way right now than DT San Diego is (and I really like DT San Diego).

I'd say about 5 years but it's well on it's way. Already it has by far the biggest increase in new residents than any other area in Los Angeles. By far the most construction. It's the major public transportation hub in the region by far. The biggest jobs center. A major player in cultural amenities, restaurants and nightlife. Architecturally its beautiful and historic and many thanks to the Adaptable Reuse Initiative which is turning many of the old historic and sometimes vacant for decades buildings into beautiful boutique hotels and housing. New national and international stores here with more on the way. You old timers keep staying set in your old LA thinking. LA is changing.
