Are you kidding? He makes waaaay more than the average college graduate working today, and doesn't have the student loan burden.

The funny thing is he DID go to college, and, evidently, it was the same one as that poster, UCLA. But he left after 2 years and didn't graduate.

Making more than 500K/yr, he could easily live close in if that was important to him. However, apparently it is more important for him to have a McMansion like he had in Kansas than to have a short commute, so he chose to live in the IE. Money gives you those kind of options. The funny thing is the article title makes it seem like he was forced by high housing costs to live far away, when really it was his choice about what kind of home he wanted.

I see someone else read the article. He actually owns a home in Irvine too, but chooses to rent it becaie he doesn’t want to live there. I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of this article besides being a fluff piece for the IE. A pro athlete that makes $625k a year, and already owns a home in a desirable part of OC, give me a break.

Some people are hard wired that bigger home is better home. He or his wife might just be those kind of people. They pay for this defect by where they have to live but nobody feels sorry for them.

The 210 freeway cities may be the IE, but from San Dimas out to the 15, it's pretty nice.

I guess it was a slow news day and they wanted to profile someone who makes a lot of money but chooses a long commute in order to get more house for his dollar on the fringes of LA. Very misleading article title though.

No sympathy points for a 33-year old making $625K/year, which puts him in the top 1% of earners in California.

Bottom line is that for $500K, you can get a nice 5,000-6,000 sq. ft. house in Kansas. Same house in a desirable part of LA /OC with good public schools will be at least $2.5 million. In the IE, he could probably do it for a little over a million somewhere like Claremont, Upland, or Rancho Cucamonga.

Despite a great salary, he's probably on the back end of his career and doesn't want to blow too much on a house just yet. But it sounds like despite a little longer commute, he can chill in the train and is happy with a large home in a family-friendly area.
