Thanks for all the advice... I guess I'll pass on Pomona for now. We are looking at Long Beach because my wife got a job offer at the VA in West LA and Long Beach would be in our budget ($1.2) along with good schools for our two elementary age children.

She is looking at an hour plus commute every morning also.

Yes... which is why we’re also starting to strongly consider the Southbay, Torrance/Redondo area...

If you're not insistent on a house and can do apartments, Palms is an area close to the VA with relatively cheap housing or at least it was pretty cheap a few years ago (maybe things have changed?).
