More often when I first moved here a couple of years ago but Downtown has taken it's place if I head east. Hollywood is just too crowded. The only fun thing is hitting on tourists at some of the bars/clubs up there or a concert at the Bowl. That's when I tell them about the much better local spots.

You are right, all the years we lived in Ca and after we grew up we rarely went anywhere near Hollywood. While in our teens and younger we would venture there more often. Used to love to go to some of the movies theaters there. Why? I don't know, but it just a cool thing to do. Also the walk of the stars was pretty cool and some of the old, long gone restaurants and drive ins were fun.

Damn. I forgot about that.

I have a buddy of mine that got VA housing off of La Brea and Colosseum.

That place has all of the elements of a place that should be much nastier than Hollywood California I repeat Hollywood California. But it’s not. I felt safer over that way and I didn’t mind visiting my friend at his place over there.

I've been here since 2007 and haven't been to Hollywood.

Every work day, I get on the Red Line at Hollywood and Highland to get to and from work but yes, 90% tourist and then the other 10% are people that pass through commuting to and from work/school.

Never - I stay away from there. It is not a nice place. I went up there years ago when Tom Cruises daughter Suri was born. We were in front of Cruises home. I was with my daughter and that was the last time.

Hollywood is full of restaurants, clubs, and interesting places and conveniently on the subway line. However, for LA area residents is like Times Square for New Yorkers. Most never go there unless they have visitors.
