Ummm, why would this affect the 405 ? I would think that the freeways leading to DTLA would be more affected.

Hopefully the city finds a way to reasonably finance a cap (buildings or parks) over the sunken parts of the 110 in those parts.

OK, now the folly of NOT having a station at 5th and Flower (as part of the Regional Connector--or whatever it has been renamed and branded) is NOW glaringly clear. If 77 stories is built, then it will be at one of the most remote sections of downtown cut off from easy Metro bus and rail lines with the spaghetti roads of 4th street and those imposing concrete viaducts casting dark shadows for the shadow people to hide. We need to see how the plans for this tower address pedestrians (right now, it is next to impossible to be a pedestrian) and perhaps some kind of welcoming connection (most likely another pedestrian bridge to Bunker Hill that could provide access to the Bunker Hill station for Blue and Expo lines because that has to be a shorter, easier walk than hiking all the way back to 7th street because Figueroa at 3rd is NORTHBOUND traffic only and walking down to Flower is not only unappealing but does not have sufficient bus service to get people to Metro 7th Street.


Both LADOT and the MTA had better take a serious look at this tower and start working with the developer and try to figure out how then can efficiently get people from this isolated part of the galaxy to the robust public transit in DTLA. Of course, we did NOT get a 5th and Flower station (which could provide reasonable access to the proposed tower--two large but walk-able blocks heading north on 5th and turning east on Figueroa being the most pedestrian friendly route) because it was considered too close to 7th Metro Center for Federal $$ to be used, and while local money could have been used to build the station, the MTA was not in the mood for such serious expense while it is still building Regional Connector (remember all its proposed budget was eaten with infrastructure relocation nightmare before construction of tunnels) the purple line subway extension and finishing the Crenshaw line. There is only so much an over $6 billion MTA budget can provide.


It is an irony, that with this 77 story tower proposal, this is EXACTLY what proponents of the 5th/Flower were talking about: not only would the station be surrounded by existing large office towers, a hotel, and the Public Library preventing most people from having to trek the time consuming walk to Metro 7th Center, but it could provide access for NEW developments. Now, as planned, Metro 7th is going to get SLAMMED with even more people trying to access 4 rail lines that will eventually all continue to for significant distances (Purple line still limited to Western Ave not too far away). I seriously think that the 2 LRT lines that will continue through the Regional Connector will become over saturated leaving 7th Metro Center heading North/East because there will be NO 5th/Flower and LRT can not accommodate the numbers the 2 heavy rail subway lines can.


I digressed a bit, but I think a 77 story tower at almost any other DTLA location or even Century City with coming subway or even Hollyweird or Koreatown or wherever besides this isolated locale, but let's hope the developers come up with solutions to addressing the lack of EVERYTHING at 4th and Flower area.
