We are relocating back to LA as a young family and Woodland Hills is one of my desired area to buy a house. I am wondering if anyone wants to share some insights on Woodland Hills Elementary Charter For Enriched Studies, Calabash Charter Academy and Lockhurst Drive Charter Elementary? Thanks!

Everything in Woodland Hills slapped the word "Charter" on its name. It doesn't really mean much, just a buzz word to attract families. It just means they can operate somewhat independently of the district things they don't think would work for them and hopefully that they have a true mission and direction. In the LAUSD charter and pilot schools you typically have teachers invested in a plan for growth. If they are non-district charters then you really have no idea what they're about since those typically bring in uncertified teachers and work them through programmed lessons (At least the ones I've seen).

The farther south and west you go (farther from Canoga Park and Winnetka areas), the pricier you'll get and the more competitive your schools will be. The area schools are all fine out there.

Thanks for the info. What about Calabasas?

Can't speak for any so-called charter schools, but if you want the better area public schools, elementary and high schools, consider moving to Calabasas instead of Woodland Hills.
