Interesting article .

Denser development is the way things are going because that is what makes sense from a business /economical position .. although I don’t see L.A becoming affordable at this point even with a lot more building . There will always be a premium to live in new construction of course because land , material costs and labor are very high now .

As the city and state grapple with a housing crisis, “Yes In My Backyard” supporters see an opening

They intend to get involved in local elections, focusing on tight races where they can swing the vote. “We need to make sure NIMBY politicians don’t get re-elected,” Albrektson said.

“They want to break everything down into the simplest terms possible — ‘we’re YIMBYs, you’re NIMBYs, and we’re in opposition,’” he said. “I think there are all sorts of reasons to be critical of a city’s development practices. And breaking people down into two or three groups isn’t adequate.”

Oh good grief. What do they plan to do about traffic, ban cars and force us all to use those derpy community scooters?

I guess a lot of Angelenos should adopt the monicker: I love Buildings.

Yeah might be good idea to fix the roads , sidewalks and clear sidewalks of homeless tents before adding too many more people .
If more people start walking instead of driving these things will be bigger issues than they are now .

I've been in Barcelona, Spain for about 8 months. It's amazing, there are few homeless here. The cops don't let homeless sleep on the street and parks. If they catch them sleeping outside they make them wake up and leave. So the homeless they do have go in bank lobbies and sleep their all night.

European nations have free medical and mental healthcare, so that means fewer people become homeless. Plus income inequality is not as extreme.

There's a huge disparity in LA between what a job is going to pay and what housing is going to cost and the government at some point is going to have to deal with this or the homeless problem will end up causing severe economic damage. With that said, LA does have underutilized land where they could build more apartment buildings.

Along major boulevards where they just have stores (Santa Monica and Sunset) they should tear down the stores, build apartment buildings with retail/store space at the bottom. And build subways under the boulevards.

Los Angeles isn't a small town, and it cannot sustain the past image of a small place where everyone has a house or a car. Los Angeles is going to have to urbanize, and even further expand mass transit (this is happening already, but even more has to be done).

More mass transit won't be the solution. We already have buses that run every 20 mins 24/7 on major streets. I didn't learn to drive until I was 24. And socialism definitley won't work here. So many people want everything to be free. Free housing, free college education, free this free that.

I suspect no one in the planning department has given the slightest concerns to the water supply for all these new developments.
As it is, we have to ration water in not only this city, but statewide.
Where the hell is the water going to come from when all these new people arrive, and live in these new developments?

Bob.

Probably - Oh good Lord they will see the top of my support stockings as I ride a scooter - and that's enough to scare anyone.
