What's to stop someone from living in Los Angeles and not paying local/state taxes if their income doesn't come from here? It's so easy to live here and not leave a footprint

You'll have to pay sales tax here and car registration. If you can get around income tax etc. go for it.

How do you figure. Even if I moved to say Tennessee and all my income came from California I still contribute to the local economy by consuming where I live.

If the state you work in does not have a reciprocal agreement with your home state, you'll have to file a resident tax return and a nonresident tax return. I’ve done that before

I rent cars or use Lyft. Yes, sales tax i pay. No problem with that one
