I saw it back in the news today that a gondola is being considered to go to the Hollywood Sign. The current proposal is from Warner Brothers Studios, to build a gondola from their Burbank studios abutting Griffith Park. Warner Brothers will pay the estimated $100 million cost to build it and a sign visitor center at the top with their own funds, and will split revenue 50/50 with the city of LA Department of Recreation and Parks.

Obviously the devil will be in the details, but do think this is a mostly good idea, mostly bad idea, or are you indifferent to it.

I'd solicit the opinions first of those who live in the area around the Hollywood sign who have expressed consternation over various issues.

I've hiked to the sign a number of times. When you get there it's less then inspiring. There's no bathroom or even porta potties, no seating no shade, I mean it's a major tourist destination and there's just dirt. I'm not a fan of making it even more crowded but I do think they have to improve it somehow.

All for it. I have a friend who lives up near there, and getting to her house is a cluster****. I don't know how she tolerates it. Anything to alleviate that traffic, I say.

Sounds like a crappy deal. They pay for all of it AND give half of their revenue to parks and recs? I'm hoping parks and recs is doing something in return.

Tear it down. It may be "a major tourist destination" to you but it's basically a place to take selfies. No seating, shade or porta potties, how sad for you.
Take a walk around Hollywood Lake instead and take pics with the lake and trees in the foreground and the sign in the background. The obsession to get close to the remnants of a sign the originally advertised real estate is hilarious.
If Warners wants to invest that sum of money and charge $100.00 per trip, go for it - with the proviso the lot be completely blocked off to the pavement so anyone trying to take their selfies can be ticketed for jaywalking, blocking traffic etc.
And, yeah, I'm sure Warner Brothers isn't going to pursue this unless it pencils out financially.

Parks and Rec would be leasing WB the real estate to build the Gondola on. 95+% of the path is through Griffith Park, as is the destination. There is going to be opposition, so WB knows the Parks Department will need a good offer to even consider looking into it.

Tear down the "remnants" of the sign? Fine with me I couldn't care less. But I think a lot of people would disagree with you.

Maybe a gondola would help with foot traffic there. It's so crowded that trail is wrecked.
