I live in Manhattan Beach, but go to Playa quite often as I like dive bars like Prince 'O Whales and Harbor Room. What blows my mind is how different the two little communities are. Playa is like stepping back decades (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

Do most of the locals not know they're sitting on millions of dollars of real estate, or do they just not care? I admire the low-key and modest people I meet in Playa. It's a delight.

That said, what do all of you lovely people feel about Playa? The good...the bad...the ugly. I want to hear it.

Thank you everyone and have a wonderful evening.

Sometimes people that come from Old Money tend to be more modest, and less flashy about it. Old Money people have an understanding (often inculcated into them from childhood) that money comes and money goes, but having class, and manners, and respect for people is paramount to being flashy. To these people, modesty is preferable to being ostentatious and obnoxious.

People with New Money, or careers that have put them into a bracket where they are seen as being "New Money" are often out to prove that they have said money.

It really boils down to a difference in values.

For what it's worth, I personally know people who live in both communities. I've worked with them and they've been quite candid about their values.
