I am thinking of moving out to Los Angeles California in January to pursue my dreams. Anyway, I don't have a lot of money so what are areas in LA that are not sketchy but semi cheap? At this point I don't really care if its not super nice, I just don't want to live in a bad area.

Too vague. What's your budget? Where will your work be located? What are your hobbies/interests?

Would not recommend moving without savings and a job lined up .
The cheapest areas are the highest crime and they aren’t cheap enough .

Cost of food and gas is more here than most of the country . We get nickel and dimed on other things too .

I’d really map out how much things are going to cost you per month. A lot of people don’t have a realistic number especially if they live at home .

Best advice. Take it or leave it OP.

To the op.
I have said it before, and worth repeating.
From your post, you most definitely need to read the thread "reality check for Los Angeles".

Do a search for it.

Bob.
