Hi, I'm looking for some suggestions on where to live downtown. I'm fond of the Silver Lake/Los Feliz area but would rather get more bang for my buck. Most apartments in that area are old with no amenities. I'm finding much nicer places for a somewhat similar cost (or a hundred or two more) downtown. I'd love a loft style unit in a building with parking, a fitness center, washer and dryer in unit, nice finishes, and new appliances. I'm finding these places for around $2,100-2,300 (mostly studios which is cool).

Being able to walk to the 7th St/Metro Center and hop on any line would be great. I'd also love to be able to walk to theatres, museums, restaurants, and Grand Central Market. I'd finding places in various parts of downtown. My question is: what is the better part of downtown? I know it can be a little sketchy so a safer side would be nice. Any thoughts or even specific building recommendations? I'd be working in Hollywood. Thanks!

In anticipation of being told those places cost way more...here are some listings as examples:

Issue with Milano lofts, and really anything north of 7th and west of Broadway is that there is very very little public parking. Almost zero street parking around the Milano and nearest pay lot is Pershing Square.

So its an issue with visitors. The places south of 7th and east of Spring St...there is more street parking available(meters are free overnight) and there are also many more private lots.

I lived in DTLA from 2010-2013 and still work there. My personal preference would be to live in South Park, or in the places along Main, Spring, 8th, 9th, or maybe little Tokyo. Reasons are closeness to shopping/bars/restaurants/entertainment, distance from skid row, and visitor parking availability.

My least favorite areas would be east of little Tokyo, arts district, along Los Angeles St(or anywhere east of there), and financial district. Reasons are distance, parking, proximity to skid row.
