I've lived here most of my life. The weather is mostly tolerable (I'd like it to be cooler), other than that there isn't a single thing that makes this place stand out. "Location location location, that's why a small two bedroom home costs over a million". Really? Why? "Because this is Los Angeles! It's perfect here! "Even if that were true, should it really be worth that much? "Supply and demand! A lot of people want to live here, so naturally the prices reflect that!" A mansion in Beverly Hills, sure. But a shack in Santa Monica? "Yes, that's the market value!" How do you people continue to justify this absurdity?!?!

For me... Santa Monica is no more expensive than say buying in the Valley for someone else. The expense is subjective to what one can afford to pay. 1.5 million to you might be extravagant, but to others, not so much.
This really isn’t rocket science you know.

If you are obsessed with buying a house or other residence, and don’t have an extremely high income, , you should probably move somewhere else.

Have you looked into other cities ? There are many options today for decent cities with good economies and low unemployment.

Many places will have a lower cost of living compared to L.A or SoCal area

Some ideas on this list .

Buying a home (or even a condo) is pretty much out of the question for most of us that haven’t yet here in LA and most of SoCal.

You should probably look into leaving California.

So you're tying your happiness into owning property that is out of your financial reach right now? If so, then no, you won't ever find L.A. tolerable. Why does anyone need to own a home to be happy?

For one, few people have ever paid over a million for a "shack in Santa Monica." Most of us bought awhile ago, and most likely in places that were less desirable, and/or were fixers. And a mere six years ago, housing prices hit their lowest point in years, during which time many people bought.

Yeah 2009-2012 was pretty much a one time opportunity to buy in SoCal at a decent price .

But even then Santa Monica and the westside prices didn’t go down much because there wasn’t much distress and foreclosures .

Wonder what percent of Santa Monica residents could afford to own their home if they had to buy at today’s prices .. probably 1/2 or less .

I had a coworker that bought in Santa Monica in the 1990s I remember she mentioned something about paying too much for her home at the time I believe she paid about $400k .. got to be worth over $2 million today I imagine .

No reason to change your mind. All of your posts are bashing L.A. You came back to this board after complaining in April and still the same story. Leave already.

Yeah and I don't know why he's here in the first place based on his username. He lives in Florida, not LA.

Why do you want to find LA tolerable if it doesn't meet your needs? Why not figure out what it is that you want and then find a place that's a better fit if you're unhappy in Los Angeles?
