Laguna Beach for me too, and the others too although I would not have added Carlsbad in the same league. I would add Newport Coast and Corona del Mar.

I would take Newport Coast over Malibu in a heartbeat.

Try telling that to the Orange County kooks, who seem to think Malibu is a point on the map rather than a comparatively unpopulated stretch of coastline almost as long as all of OC itself, but largely spared all the faux Mediterranean monotony.

You know, a lot of us so-called OC kooks are from Southern California (yes, LA), unlike many posters here, and know Malibu too.

You could put a gun to my head and still wouldn't want to live in Newport Coast.

I get the arguments for La Jolla and Laguna Beach. Malibu, Laguna and La Jolla are all very nice in their own way.

I know, I'm a recovering OC kook. But c'mon, Newport Coast?

yes Ive read your posts before. I know you are very familiar with L.A. Thank God someone on this forum is. Soooo many people write these jilted, inaccurate posts about L.A. that it's insane. you have to live in L.A. for a good amount of time or be from here to KNOW L.A. Its way more than hollywood blvd and south central.

I see your point. But Malibu means different things to different people. Malibu can mean a 33 million home or a more "modest" 950K condo. To me, at this point, the old Malibu is definetely dead and the place is awash in affluence. Unlike the case when we were kids, Malibu today is mostly for the uber rich and thus the mere mention of a place that admittedly does not resemble it any look or feel, but draws a similar monied crowd, can be apt.
