I picked up an L.A. Weekly for the first time in several years. I was astonished at how much it had shrunk. Much smaller, and only 20 pages. Very little editorial content. The internet has really hurt the paper. Taken away much of its classified ad revenue.

I remember reading the L.A. Weekly thirty years ago. A thick paper, full of ads, investigative reporting, underground cartoons.

Yeah I know it was sold somewhat recently about a year ago or so.

When I was younger I would read it all the time and look forward to getting the latest issue. That was before the internet and blogs were really a thing though. There used to be some great articles in the L.A Weekly.

Journalism in general has gone downhill though.

Yes, a great paper, way back when, with a lot of articles about the arts.

Isn't this pretty much the story of print media period today? I can remember when we lived for our daily paper, the specialty papers and magazines and omg, the Sunday paper: now 1/2 the people we know, especially those under 60 don't even subscribe to magazines or newspapers of any kind.

They should just turn into a Vlog/Blog, instragram, tinder, or facebook page only, or like a youtube channel.

Well do they at least still tell you where to find LA County's finest massage establishments? If so, then at least a vital purpose is still being served...tee hee.

Well with the disappearance of the advertising of such establishments today and a new generation pampering itself at lower social class levels they are actually talking about massage, without the happiness.

Default Did a little copy editing for you . . .

I picked up a fill-in-the-blank-newspaper/magazine for the first time in several years. I was astonished at how much it had shrunk. Much smaller, and fewer pages. Very little editorial content. The internet has really hurt print media. Taken away much of the ad revenue and circulation.
