Moving to LA soon and am debating between two apartments, one next to The Grove and one in Miracle Mile on Wilshire. Have never been to either area - which is nicer? Safer? Will be working in Century City, is this a decent commute?

Both are equally nice and safe.

For me I'd take the Miracle Mile location over the Grove. I am just not a fan of the Grove...it is just a shopping mall without a roof.

Also, I like the neighborhood feel closer to the Miracle Mile. All that said, you can't wrong with either location.

Though you should know that the extension of the Purple Line subway under Wilshire Blvd is underway and will create construction bottlenecks from time to time.

Reasonable commute time by LA standards. Probably 35 to 40 minutes with peak hour traffic (all surface streets).

I agree. The Miracle Mile area and the Grove area essentially overlap and could be considered one in the same.

From the Miracle Mile/ Grove area to Century City is about 4 to 5 miles tops. Olympic Blvd or Pico Blvd are your best options. Wilshire Blvd has a lot more traffic lights and is more congested because it runs through the heart of Beverly Hills.

Are you saying Fairfax District? Thats where the Grove Mall is located.
But across the street on Fairfax Ave is Beverly Grove neighborhood.
But across the Grove mall across 3rd street is the gated Park La Brea neighborhood known for that collection of highrise towers that has been here for many years.

It doesnt matter since they are all next to the Grove mall.
I would pick this over the Miracle Mile because there is a lot more proximity to many amenities like shops and restaurants, some bars and nightlife that you can walk to.
You dont really get that on Miracle Mile. Except the area between La Brea Ave and up to La Brea Tar Pits with its business area but still a fraction of what you get staying near the Grove mall.

I live near the grove, a little further east in fairfax district (la Brea and Melrose) and work in century city. My commute in the morning is roughly 20-25 minutes. I leave at 640am and get in just after 7am. If you work at 8am it will take about 30-40 mins. Coming home 30-45 mins if you leave from 4pm to 5pm. The traffic is just awful going out of century city in the pm.
