As I ponder relocating to SoCal I am concerned with maintaining my hair. I am African-American and I do not chemical treat (straighten) my hair. I have "locs" that I have maintained here in Memphis and I would not be able to maintain them myself. Anyone know of any hair salons that I could go to? I don't mind traveling a long way just want to maintain my hair. I am in the pharmaceutical industry and normally have the guy just put it up off my shoulders. Thanks in advance.

LA is a big place, so i don't know what area of town you have in mind, but this salon is just about dead-center. they are well-regarded in hair circles, but i can't refer you to a particular stylist there.

Oh! My Nappy Hair Salons of Los Angeles, Oakland and Atlanta

There are TONS of shops that specialize in black hair up and down Crenshaw Blvd. beginning at Martin Luther King Blvd. There are also several where Oh My Nappy Hair is on La Brea and Wilshire.

Actually I don't use the term "nappy" to describe my hair although many do. I use the term "natural." And why is Don Imus being brought up here? Do you have another ethnic salon to suggest? Does HE know of any ethnic hair salons?

Anyone who doesn't understand the difference between referring to a hair texture and women being called "ho's" has severe problems.

thank you CESpeed! i dont want to get into it with people who dont understand, but who in their right mind would refer to athletic young woman as hos. forget the nappy headed part. would he want someone calling his mama that? his wife (is he married)? thats just ridiculous to refer to upstanding women such as the Bk team in such a manner.

as for the double standards part, you need to realize that one is in refernce to how curly or natural hair is and the other is meant as a derogatory term. simple as that. dont try to bring your PC stuff around here. take that to the other forums where people like you can stroke eachothers ego's.

if you dont understand, here, maybe this might help

i.e. "man my nails are dirty/grundgy"
but if some one says
"get your dirty a$$ grundgy self outta here, HO"
do you see the difference? do you get it. its the context. simple as that. so stay away PC police crusader. this just might be above you.
