Apparently this was in Westwood Village but I have no idea which store this was.

Definitely not the Tower Records in Westwood.

(Interesting to see video clip of Bette Davis signing album covers there in 1982; link below.)

Yeah, I know. Could it be Penny Lane?

Could it be Rhino Records? I think the original store was in Westwood.

Perhaps...I'd forgotten about that place -- good catch! Back in the day I bought used copies of Vacation by the Go-Go's and Points on a Curve by Wang Chung.

It would more likely be Penny Lane, given those handmade signs. The bigger chains like Tower didn't use them. Not sure about Rhino. Rhino used to have a store on Yale in Claremont, near the colleges, but I don't recall that their signs were hand made.

Apparently Penny Lane closed in Westwood in 2005. Penny Lane hits end of the road | Daily Bruin

And Rhino Records closed there in '06, having been in Westwood since 1976. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-...o06-story.html

I just read a little about Penny Lane in that article -- it's too bad they didn't last long enough to capitalize on the vinyl resurgence.

Rhino still exists, just not with stores. It is the catalogue development arm of Warner Music. You could send them the photo, likely they have archives or someone who was involved then who might know. Rhino.com. April 13 is Record Store day, so it would be a timely inquiry.

Just came across this. I took that photo. It is the Wherehouse, at Broxton and Kinross, Westwood Village, 1983.

I had a feeling it was the Wherehouse, the graphics looked familiar. I bought Fleetwood Mac's Rumours there (late in the game in October 1977). Not sure why I didn't get it at Tower, which was my go-to store for records at that time, maybe they were sold out.
