Gotta be a model or actress to live OP lifestyle in L.A. Truth: a lot cheaper cost of living than OP to be had in L.A. Rents for studios in Mid Wilshire can still go for only $850 a month and food is still reasonable like food trucks and fast foods. Downtown L.A farmer's market has some yummy food for $7.

Please don't distort my words. I did not say that.

YOU compared LA with SF and New York. I said you can't compare with SF and Manhattan, LA is less expensive. I challenged you to find a place to work and I would tell you where to look for housing. You said Century City.

And the fact you found a one bedroom apartment in Culver City right at the OPs price point which is a short commute from Century City proves I was correct. Thank you!!!

P.S i am licensed real estate broker.
Okay mr. realtor, show me these great $850K houses in LA proper. You claim that buys you a house in "almost anywhere in LA" yet you can't back it up.

Again question is what is your definition of la proper? Obviously you will not able to buy a house in Beverly Hills, but you can buy https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3.../20520120_zpid . Same with Malibu https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2...20554158_zpid/

You can buy a house in woodland hills, Chatworth, west hills . If you are willing to wait a while you can find a house in West Hollywood for that price as well.

You said you can buy a house for $850K pretty much anywhere in LA proper, and instead you link 2 apartments. No actual real estate agent would consider West Hills/Chatsworth/Woodland Hills part of LA proper.

What does "wait a while" for West Hollywood even mean? The cheapest place in WeHo listed right now is $995K and it's 2 bed 1 bath 806 sqr feet. Everything else is $1.5M+. Does waiting magically cause prices to drop $500K+ or what?

Not exactly eating out of a tin can and I got by just fine on that. I think until you have a few million in the bank that kind of budget is plain-out foolish TBH. Maybe you go to a really fancy place for a special occasion or two but certainly not every night of the week.
Even some of those fancy places are too expensive for what you get in return.

Let's say you make 120k.

Your take home will be about 5,500/mo (taking into account health, dental, vision, 401k, etc)

$2,200 to live in a decent apartment close to work
$200 for utilities
$100 for items you have to buy all the time (soap, toilet paper, shampoo, etc.)
$400 for a car
$120 for insurance
$250 for gas
$1000 for food / drinks (and this is being very conservative)
$300 inexpensive entertainment
$50 for amazon prime/netflix, etc.
$200 for randoms things

You're left with $680.

You buy anything remotely expensive in one month and you're already in the negative. say you want to take tennis classes. it's $65 per class. you have TWO classes per week and that's already $520/mo.

Can someone tell me why anyone making less than 120k per year would want to live here? Imagine being in your 30s with roommates.
These dollar amounts are absolutely absurd!

The only absurd amount on the list is the entertainment/food costs.

If you disagree, please feel free to post amounts you believe are more accurate.
