Why would you need a 2-car garage then?

There are parking lots along the Expo subway line that goes to Santa Monica.
If you're not racist, you can live somewhere close.

Or you can park in North Hollywood, take the Red Line -> Expo Line.

If you could spring for 4,700:

That would be about an hour each way, depending on which part of SM. It's not a horrible way to live.

What can you rent for $4,000 in LA?

* Beverly Grove: Inside this sweet Mediterranean-style vintage apartment building is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with hardwood floors, in-unit laundry, and a luxurious updated bathroom. The apartment, which measures 1,455 square feet, is located just off Melrose and comes with two parking spaces.
* South Park: Are brand-new buildings more your speed? This one-bedroom apartment is in a South Park building that opened just this year. The 800-square-foot corner unit has a little balcony, a full bathroom, a dining area, and access to the building’s outdoor areas, pool, and gym.
* Palms: This compact little house in the hilly area of Palms near the neighborhood’s middle school offers two bedrooms and one bathroom in 896 square feet.
* West Hollywood: This one-bedroom, one-bathroom is part of the Arthur and Nina Zwebell-designed Mi Casa courtyard apartment complex, which opened in 1927.
* East Hollywood: This two-bedroom has something none of the other units up for grabs today have: two bathrooms
