Is this sort of scammer call new to the L.A. area? Just received my first one recently. Don't know what their angle is -- anybody here stay on the line long enough to find out?

I have gotten it when i used to live in AZ. i am not sure if it's a scam or a call by extended warranty company trying to solicit business. Either way i always hang up.

Scam. I started playing with them and tell them that I have a 1985 Mercedes Benz 190D, (true statement), and would love to have a warranty on it...

...They hang up on me now.

LOL...one of my babies is a 1986 560SL -- think I'll try the same thing.

But seriously, how's your Benz holding up? Mine has a few issues here and there, but for the most part the thing is built like a panzer. I could probably shoot bullets into the engine compartment and the car would still run.

Just little things. Should last me forever. It only has 145,000 miles on the clock, which is barely broken in. That works out to less than 4,200 miles a year. Pretty gutless being so heavy with only 70 horsepower, but a blast to drive with its manual trany. Germans didn't have a clue about air conditioning back in those days and the cruise control is shot. Supposed to be a place in San Luis Obispo that rebuilds them, but with the car having little power, it's not worth doing so.

Your SL is sweet. I've lusted over those, but would get an early 70s version with a stick. Very few of those still around.

It sounds like our cars have their trannies swapped, kind of like you got your chocolate in my peanut butter and vice versa.

Yeah, I guess the 560SL was auto only because back then the clutch would have been too heavy for all the power (e.g. Mustang foxbody). I too wish I had a 70's R107 w/ manual. I saw one just the other day and I was rather envious.

What's their angle? Have you talked to them long enough to find out?
