This is incredibly true from what I have witnessed in metro LA as well. Especially in the beach cities. There is this strange arrested development that happens to the people that never leave. They become California provincial. The friends out there from my youth have the outer shell of an adult but have not progressed since 1991. For many years I encouraged friends to come back east to try something new but they would become terrified to leave their precious beach towns where they can still pretend they are in their 20's.

After Eric Garcetti and Gavin Newsom have proven they can’t protect residents and their property, I’d say there’s no reason at all to move to California.

Pathetic how Garcetti allowed looting, burning and mayhem did nothing.

OK, so you don't have a job lined up. IMO, it would be "worth it", if you could line up a job in advance. Otherwise, you'd have rent coming due every month in a place shared with your friend, who wouldn't be happy if you couldn't pay the rent.

Rents may be down a bit at the moment, so from that standpoint, plus the shared-space offer, it could be worth it, if you could swing a job offer. Do you have a degree in marketing, or in business? You'd be competing against applicants who do.
