If you consider the number of deaths in Sweden related to Covid-19 (4,795) as opposed to the number of deaths in LA County (2,768), the results are not at all similar.

Sorry, but I don't consider 4795 and 2768 to be grossly dissimilar. 300,000 and 28 - that would be dissimilar.

What about the number of deaths per CAPITA in each location?

The transmission rate in L.A. County is now greater than 1.

“It’s a little bit like walking on a tightrope: We do feel confident that if sectors open, adhering to the protocols, it can be done with a lot of safety,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of public health for L.A. County. “If sectors don’t adhere to the protocols, there’s a lot of risk.”

Another possible reason why cases and deaths are so high here.

Though no one knew it then (mid-March), a man in first class, a retired Manhattan surgeon, was infected with the virus. The day after the (American Airlines) flight (from New York), he was rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with a high fever and phlegmy cough. The virus spread quickly among those he had come in contact with in the hours after leaving LAX, including at a Westside assisted living facility where a 32-year-old nurse and a dozen others later died.

L.A. was still in an early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic when the surgeon’s flight touched down, with fewer than 250 confirmed cases. Local health officials regularly assured the public then that the county was investigating each case and engaging in aggressive contact tracing to control the spread of the virus.

Despite these pledges, no one in public health informed any of the passengers and crew who had flown cross country with the surgeon that they were at risk. The airline only recently learned of the case from The Times...

Without instructions to self-quarantine or seek testing, more than 200 people on these flights returned to their families and communities ignorant of their exposure, potentially seeding new outbreaks.

“Christ,” said Dr. George Rutherford, formerly the state epidemiologist for California, upon hearing that passengers and crew weren’t contacted. “That’s a problem.”

It's time for some high-profile public officials in LA to lose their jobs.

I’m sure the government and the insurance companies are just handing over all that money too, no questions asked.

You've obviously never tried to get medical care with Medi-Cal. They check EVERYTHING, and if there is any way for them to pay less, or not pay at all, they do. I promise you the hospitals would be making much more money if they just denied anyone was dying of COVID-19, and were allowed to resume elective, non-emergency surgery/care.
