It would be more than a cold for at least 1000 of them. (And that's not counting the people they interact with elsewhere, maybe at work or at home, who were minding their own business and catch the virus from them.) Stop harassing me. Either choose that, or it will be chosen for you.

I've heard the driving-as-risk analogy since 2020, and it's terrible. Nothing like an infectious disease, in big cities driving is much more easily avoided than normal needs that involve being around others. Moreover, there are decades-long ongoing improvements in driving safety. Much by mandate and with criminal punishment for people who make driving unnecessarily risky. Probably more than 10,000 Americans are locked up annually for dangerous driving, which is far more than should ever be jailed for virus-related carelessness.

Anyway, I'm out of patience with people who don't care about their effect on others.

As of Friday (5/13/22), L.A. County was averaging about 2,800 new coronavirus cases a day over the last week, up 18% over the prior week, or 194 cases a week for every 100,000 residents, according to a Times analysis of county data. The case rate has quadrupled in the last six weeks.

There’s also an ongoing increase in coronavirus transmission at worksites, with 140 sites reporting clusters of coronavirus cases between May 4 to May 10. Many were in food and beverage stores; building material and garden equipment stores; electronic and appliance stores; as well as businesses in the manufacturing, finance and insurance sectors.

L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer held out hope L.A. County could avoid getting to a high COVID-19 community level if people took more precautions.

"Los Angeles moved into the medium category of the CDC's 3 tier scale on Thursday (5/19/22), and is the only Southern California county at that level.

In those counties, residents should “consider taking prevention measures based on their own risk, like avoiding crowds, wearing a mask, increasing their testing, especially before gathering with others indoors,” according to CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

“We need to do everything we can to stay out of ‘high,’” said Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. “Nobody here wants to see us move to any categorization that could possibly cause stress on our healthcare system or result in more people getting sick or dying.”

Actually it really is just a cold for most people.

In the instance of those under 60, it’s very rare to be hospitalized due to Covid.

And I’ll note the strains have become substantially weaker since this study was conducted.

Believe the science.

I see you believe in wishful thinking, not science. A small percentage resulting in hospitalizations does not equal "just a cold for most people" and the study doesn't claim that. I've heard people report that their Omicron infections felt quite bad, much worse than my experience with most colds.

And lasting effects now known as Long Covid. Some become serious much later than when infected.

And I’ve heard the opposite.

See how that works?

Hospitalizations are a really good measure of how sick someone gets.

I’ll note that with this current strain, nearly everyone in LA that was admitted to ICU was actually admitted for something else and contracted Covid while in the hospital. At least if the local news is to be believed.

Oh sure, people either get very sick or barely feel sick. That's logical
