How can LAPD officers stand around while stores are being burned and looted all around them? More to the point, why is LAPD leadership making them stand around?

In 1992 my father and uncles bought guns when they saw what happened in LA (meaning LAPD standing down, Koreatown merchants with guns protecting their neighborhood). The lesson they learned was you can't count on the police to protect you, you have to be prepared to defend yourself.

Anyone else buying guns and ammo when the chance presents itself?
The looting and fires resulting from peaceful protests in the City of LA have been very confined and lasted only two days. On day three, once the curfews went into affect, LAPD and it's partner agencies agressively enforced the curfew and took back control. No lives lost. Kudos to LAPD/LASO, Chief Moore and Sheriff Villanueva.

During the 92 riots the destruction and looting was incredibly wide spread throughout the city and lasted 7 days. LAPD was overwhelmed despite assistance from mutual aid agencies (PD's from throughout the Southland). 63 people lost their lives.

Here in Phoenix the protests were downtown. Looters organized on social media and met in Scottsdale. Just opportunists as you've mentioned. Some kid from YouTube has an arrest warrant now. Looks like the situation in LA has been worse. There was a basketball player that roughed up a kid that smashed his truck window. Hilarious video.

Well said. It's must be so much easier for people to blame the LAPD, Moore, Garcetti, Newsom, California, etc, etc.

In 1995 I marched with Tammy Bruce and NOW to call attention to violence against women and in memory of Nicole Brown. We marched from the Brentwood condo where Nicole was murdered, along San Vicente, to 26th St. Do you people know how much looting occurred? None. That was an actual protest march. These groups that have been forming around town are not protest marches. They are mobs, rife with thugs and various degrees of riff-raff. When we marched for Nicole Brown, we didn't taunt the police, we didn't throw things at the police, we didn't get in their faces and yell. That's the way a legitimate march should be, unlike these mob riot groups that are just a bunch of trouble makers, whether they're looting stores or not.

Furthermore, stop writing "F*** 12" on everything, you spoiled little brats.

Of course the looters came... they walked into all the damaged stores like they were shopping. Footage of woman with baby stroller going "shopping".
We were a little further away from the worst of it, but my brother at the time worked for Hugh's Aircraft and had an apartment in Inglewood. He barricaded himself inside and vowed to buy a gun afterwards. Very scary!
I agree, those were scary times. The 92 riot spread like wild fire and police were no where to be found. So much uncertainty, so much fear throughout the city. These recent events were child's play compared to 92.
