Hi there,

I live in Porter Ranch and I am in process of buying home with a In-Law guest suite with a separate entrance, full bathroom and Kitchen.

Is it legal if i rent out the suite?

Thanks in advance!

I used to work in the Planning/Building field. Your best bet would be to call the Planning/Building Department of the city/jurisdiction that home is located in to see if guest suite was legally permitted if it was, I would then also ask the Planning/Building staff if it is legal to rent out the in law suite and be sure to get all the pertinent information that you can on that structure.

I say to contact the city/jurisdiction directly as a lot of different cities have different requirements regarding what is legal regarding these in law suites/guest houses.

I would ask this question in an email so you'll have ammunition when they change the rule later

Porter Ranch would have a set of CCR that the OP should read thoroughly and abide by.
