Today was the first time in daylight I've seen it since it was shortened. It's somewhat strange to see it now, with the threshold being a lot closer to the main building, and the PAPI lights almost midfield of the old runway. Somewhat sad to see this historic airfield chopped up.

I had to laugh, though, when a turboprop pilot went into beta mode twice -- perhaps to annoy the neighbors and get a little payback for shortening the runway. Good. Also laughed when a T-6 had to make a go-around; how's that for shortening the runway and having to listen to that radial engine almost at full throttle? Enjoy all that extra noise, anti-airport neighbors. Perhaps next time you should just leave things alone, because your politicians don't always know what's best.

I saw the handwriting on the wall years ago and relocated my aircraft to Van Nuys.

Have you flown into SMO in a fixed-wing since it was shortened?

Yes, both fixed-wing and helicopter.
