All the areas you listed are great and are far more friendly/safe than anything you'll find in Seattle short of top of Queen Anne/Magnolia

To get a better feel for the northeast areas of Los Angeles, I would suggest the op visit the web site "TheEastsider.com".
It is a local newspaper, and online web site that details all going on in the northeast Los Angeles area.
Big section of real estate listings, reports of crime in these areas etc.
Wealth of info for someone looking to research local areas.
I have lived in the northeast section of Los Angeles for thirty years, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
The area I live , is a small village east of Highland Park, south of South Pasadena, west of Monterey hills, and North of Montecito heights.
It is called Hermon, and in relation to many other places in the city, it is safe, even walking at night.
Mostly single family homes with a few duplexes, and apartment buildings.

Hermon definitely has a small town feel to it, which is why I like it so much.
I would estimate the population at around 3000, give or take a few hundred.
Being adjacent to South Pasadena, it is much like it, except we don't have the commerce that South Pasadena has.
We have one gas station, and one shopping center.

Thank you CALGUY! That website is just the kind of thing I love! If anyone else has anymore like that, for West Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire, Fairfax, or Larchmont Village areas I sure would appreciate it!
