Following reports of large parties that violate health orders aimed at slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Wednesday that he will authorize the city to shut off water and power services to residents who hold such gatherings.

Beginning Friday night (8/7/20), if Los Angeles Police Department officers respond to and verify that a large party is occurring at a property, and there’s evidence that the venue has repeatedly engaged in such behavior, the department will request that the city shut off water and power services within 48 hours.

Garcetti said that while all nightclubs and bars have already been closed, “these large house parties have essentially become nightclubs in the hills” and often happen at homes that are vacant or used for short-term rentals.

Good. Maybe they should also take away the tax exempt status of the church's which violate these orders as well.

What about closing off some homeless shanties? Those surely spread some diseases, not only COVID.

Closing off their dwellings? Homeless people aren't partying or traveling anywhere.

Yes looker. As Steve Bannon preached: “Flood the [media] zone with sh*t” to create discord and disrupt social stability. You are fulfilling Bannon’s mission.

Showers and toilets are harder to replace. That's probably why more than power is being shut off. Some rich people going to have to go the gym to shower. Oh wait, the gym is closed Then maybe the private pool, but then that's going to get dirty if guests use it. Okay, probably just fill up some buckets from the pool, but that's a nuisance and isn't as clean as showering. Their fun is being seriously reduced.

I said that citizens were getting fed up and ready for the government to do more. One article said there were 2000 complaints. I guess authorities weren't doing much more than visiting, but now those locations are on record and ready to be punished by DWP if they host parties again. Maybe that was being plotted for weeks. Things are shifting in the right direction

Yeah, good luck with your neighbors tolerating a generator blaring away into the night. Do you know how loud those things can be? My neighbor had one in his driveway during the last major blackout and it sounded like there was a Sopwith Camel running up.

Also, a batch of porta potties outdoors probably would get backlash and indoor use apparently is stinky.

People doing the big parties might think they can get around LADWP action, but then experience life without the basics as not worth it.

There is no law that says you can't have power generator going. What neighbors think is irrelevant.
