grew up all my life in SGV, now thinking of buying a home in the SFV as it's closer to work. Have to admit that I've never been through the SFV so i'm not familiar with the area. What areas have a lot of good/varying asian foods/resturants? What areas do asian people tend to live in/around?

My observations are somewhat dated...but I’ll tell you that outside low level Mexican food(IE tacos and burritos) the SFV is an absolute wasteland for good eats.

I lived in SFV from 2001-2010. Having grown up in SGV which is absolute heaven for Chinese, Mexican, Vietnamese, and a few other types of food, SFV was a complete shock.

I’ve long been a night person and worked off watch jobs for a lot of my time in both places. Want delicious Chinese or Vietnamese food at 2am on a Tuesday? You’ll find it no problem in SGV. Want great Mexican food? There’s a few 24 hour Mexican restaurants. In SFV OTOH you can have McDonalds, JIB, Que Rico, or Tacos Mexico and that’s it.

So the only real asian food centers I can remember in SFV is there’s a few Philippino restaurants in Panorama City by Woodman and Roscoe and there is some Korean places in Granada Hills and Northridge.

But really, I think SFV peeps believe that PF Changs is the epitome of asian food

The best Chinese restaurant in the SFV is Panda Express..... I'd only move as far west as Burbank or Glendale so you are still close to the SGV.

Thanks. I've heard that the SFV isn't a mecca for asian variety foods like the SGV but i didn't think it was that bad...but nevermind. lol

There is some Thai and Vietnamese places but it’s so hit and miss. I never found anything exceptional and there’s a number that were just plain gross.

Poor advice. Panda Express is the pits (as well as PF Chang's).

I'd go to Yelp and look up Chinese Food in the area. Try to find one with 4.5 stars if possible.

I used to go to Sanamluang (Southeast Asian cuisine) in North Hollywood a long time ago, it was OK. There used to be a couple of good authentic Chinese restaurants in Glendale but they are long gone. You may as well go to Chinatown.

OK...doesn't help the OP though.

I forgot, there is a Sam Woo restaurant and a couple other places next to the 99 Ranch Market on Sepulveda in Van Nuys. Much better than Panda and PF Chang.

It's not that bad, but only a little better

In the center of the valley, Van Nuys, there's a 99 Ranch supermarket just north of Victory on Sepulveda. Next to it has a Chinese restaurant, Sam Woo, a chain but nevertheless you can get authentic Cantonese cooking. They also sell BBQ chickens, ducks, roast pork, etc. Yes, you can see animals hung by the window and yes; they even have marinated chicken feet (that should qualify as authentic). On the other side of market, there's a Vietnamese restaurant.

Also on the west side by Topanga/ Canoga, I understand from friends there are a few Asian restaurants but I don't go out that way enough to give a recommendation.

If the mood strikes you on weekends, you can always take the I-5 to DTLA Chinatown for a feast.
