Where are good places to pick up a chess game? Which parks, coffee houses, etc.? If there are many, many places, then which ones near-ish to Pasadena?

Thanks!

Starbucks in Barnes and Noble in Encino. On any given morning you'll find quite a few people playing but word of advice, they are GOOD. I've played about 10 games winning only 2.

Plummer Park in Hollywood - This is what is called "Russian Park" because almost everyone there is from Russia since there there is a huge and growing Russian population in Hollywood.

Magic Johnsons Starbucks in LA - Ive seen a lot of older guys (50+) playing here. Only been there a couple of times for a mocha fix while heading to LAX but there were always a bunch of guys playing.

Starbucks Hollywood - This the Armenian Starbucks on Hollywood blvd east of Wester. Lots of people playing there

Chess games are played in one of the most scenic areas of SoCal = the Palisades in Santa Monica. Don't know how one would concentrate on the game with the incredible view of the Pacific ocean, mountains & bikini-clad babes

Whenever I'm on the 3rd street promenade, I see chess games at the Borders book store, in the outside cafe area.

Are they any good? Why only in that area?

When I was waiting to get seated for dinner at PF Changs in Burbank, I was watching some people play chess on the giant board with the big pieces in the
middle of the mall.(Burbank Town Center) haha
