Because any mask a N95 or even 99 toward infinity, with a face shield and gloves you dispose of after leaving every establishment is just a compromise as much as social distancing by itself is. To ultimately put firebreak to place on a virus is a total lockdown with only those in spacesuits leaving their bubble. That includes going to all the places that we have deemed "essential".

And all credible epidemiological and medical science says your anonymous, inexpert opinion is .... nonsense.

They have their political realities. All the arguments are about where to draw the line. You want to kill the virus you must cut it off from finding new host organisms. Half measures are half effective but won't destroy the economy in the process

I’m heading out to LA for work soon. This is nuts. The chances of catching a virus outdoors while dining is infinitesimal. You have the benefit of good weather to keep the restaurant business from collapsing, and keep servers working. And you’re throwing it away. Where I live, it’s getting too cold for that option and restaurants are struggling. We had outdoor dining all summer and our numbers were minuscule. This is really a cruel move.

The poster snarked that I should get (wear) a scuba rig.
I asked: “why”?
You responded to my “why” by saying because anything less is [ultimately ineffective] compromise.

Epidemiology says your position is without merit.

Why?

Because universally adopted social distancing and masking WILL reduce transmission so dramatically as to allow vaccines to be developed and distributed to ultimately render the virus nearly impotent, if not wipe it out altogether.

But Los Angeles County alone has triple the number of confirmed cases (391,225) of the ENTIRE STATE of Connecticut (112,581).

And triple the population.

We also had our worst surges when testing was still not widely available like now. Our death rate per capita is much higher than yours. So don’t downplay our situation to fit your narrative. We started outdoor dining in June and had no issues. Death rate plummeted. It’s only until the weather got colder that our numbers went back up (but still not as bad as Spring).

Aside from that, I have no idea what your point has to do with shutting down outdoor dining.
