Hi,

Are there any communities in California styled like Disney's Celebration in Florida ? I've never been to California and wanted to do some research before going there on holiday with a possible move planned in the future.

Any advise on these and the best areas and names would be a great help to getting me started on places to investigate further. Thanks.

I'm intrigued by this question, but it would help me and others if you explained a bit about Celebration and what you like about it. The only thing I know about it is that it's corporately-owned and rigidly master-planned (and if that's what you like then yes, there are places in So Cal like that--try Valencia or Irvine).

Thanks for the reply.

Every time we go to Florida we spend a day in Celebration and have fallen in love with the town. Mainly the style of houses, the communal grounds, lakes, golf courses set in a idilic "village"

Being English, there is nothing like this we have ever seen and the thought of living in such an environment is extremely appealing.

We are considering a move to Florida in the future but I want to check out California before we make any decision.

Any further advise would be most appreciated.

If memory serves me correctly, Celebration is, literally, a Disney-owned city that they built upon purchased land and then sold to the general public. If this is correct, no, there isn't a Celebration in California, but there are, as pointed out above, master-planned cities and towns that are regulated the township and rigid CC&Rs. These are not at all uncommon in the US. A Celebration-like town IS NOT common to my knowledge.

Agree with the above and wanted to add that "Ana-crime" definitely is no Celebration USA

Hi, Can I change this question to "are there any "master-planned cities" in California that "look like" Celebration style" I never meant to ask "do Disney own any towns in California"

It was the wonderful houses and beautiful landscapes that appealed more than anything else. I have never seen such a beautiful town before. It sounds like this is more common in the USA than I thought so can anyone advise on areas and communities in California.

Many thanks.

Are you from Orlando? My husband and I are from Tampa. I studied this development in college. It looks great from the outside (picket fenses - very 50 style psuedo safe housing development). But, then when you walk around at night time, you see the young teenagers in the alleys smoking. It's a great idea. Very pretty. But, do not be fooled about how safe they are.

Lightbulb communities

In California, some of the places where you will see communities like this are mostly along the central coast...

There are a string of charming and quaint little artist colony communities along the central coast... or small towns and cities that offer village-like living:

Solvang, Carmel-by-the-Sea, San Simeon/Cambria (one of my favorite places), Monterey, Morro Bay, parts of San Luis Obispo, Cayucos...etc., etc.

There are also places like Ojai, Mendocino, Topanga Canyon, parts of Laguna Beach, part of Santa Barbara, Atascadero, Templeton, Pasa Robles, Pismo Beach, Hermosa Beach (beach bungalow community-style living) and so forth.

(LOL) Is that all it takes to be unsafe- teenagers in the alley smoking? That must be the Disneyland version of unsafe. Sounds like "Happy Days"!
