Many of Chicago's suburban areas look (and are) dated. So are many areas away from downtown. Detroit is also a very Democratic city, so I do not see your point.

LA has nice weather and it's close to a border that has recently been opened to illegals. What would anybody expect. Buy a tarp and move downtown people!

Pffft.

I'm from the Midwest but I've spent a fair amount of time in Los Angeles. The semi-aridity of the hills makes for some unsightly places where nature and development butt up against each other. Otherwise, it doesn't compare negatively with other places.

Now, out east? Good Lord, I've taken the wrong turn in Philadelphia and wondered if I'd happened upon the massive set of some post-apocalyptic movie. Just about ever Rust Belt and Northeast city has such places. Unlike LA.

Part of the Great Reset is to move people into compact cities, of which LA is probably one, but I don't know if that will help or hurt things. Here is the opening of last years annual convention which includes the topic...

LA isn't a city in the classic sense. It's a conglomeration of suburbs, some with little centers or "downtowns," linked by massive service streets and freeways.

Miami is a dump! There is very little economic activity aside from hospitality to rich yankee transplants and tourism for middle class visitors. The pathetic skyline is filled with condos, not office buildings like in Houston.

It's really hard to visit the rest of Texas after being accustomed to modern Houston freeways. The freeways in the rest of Texas are inadequate, dated, and functionally obsolete.

I have. I'd still take it over Philly, which has huge swaths that look absolutely dreadful compared to the comparatively small area that makes up skid row (which aside from the tents still doesn't look as bad as most of philly).
