My husband got a new job in Culver City. We are a family of three (5 yr old) now considering a move to Long Beach. We currently live in San Marcos (Suburbs of San Diego), where good schools are affluent along with new and immaculate communities. So anywhere near Culver City would be a drastic change for us. We just don't seem to fit in the neighboring cities, such as Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Torrance, Pasadena, Eagle Rock, etc.

We are now considering Long Beach, Ca. It's a bit of a commute but if we live in the Belmont Shores area, I would feel happier. Do any of you know what the commute is like from the Belmont Shores area? How about elementary schools? What's it like?

We would first like to rent and buy in a year. Is this a good place to settle down??????

Thank you for your help during this stressful times...

your husband would be looking at roughly an hour commute each way from belmont shore to culver city, perhaps longer. it really is a nice area for families, however, the homes are small, so hopefully you don't plan on having many more kids. i'm not sure about the schools, but as a whole, all of eastern long beach is very nice so i'd imagine schools won't be an issue. if you don't want your husband to have such a torturous commute, you may also consider el segundo. it will be a bit more expensive, but not drastically more.

A little info on what kind of community you think would fit your lifestyle? Also a rent/buy budget range?

i dont really see belmont shore as a family area.. its more of a young adult type area

as far as commute, keep in mind you're almost smack dab between the 710 and 22/605/405. depending on where exactly in belmont shore you live you could be a bit closer to the 405/22/605, but evenso the traffic coming in and out of the area sucks because its fairly tight and you only have a few streets to work with.

Belmont Shore has a lot of families north of 2nd. Some call it Belmont Park. You could also look at Naples and Belmont Heights. The schools in all those areas are very good.
