Of the following beaches that are accessible by Public Transportation to varying degrees:

Zuma, Santa Monica, Redondo, Manhattan, and Hermosa:

1. What is the quality of waves for bodysurfing like? How close do the waves break to shore?

2. What are water temperatures like?

Thanks

The west facing beaches in So Cal generally have good swells ideal for bodysurfing. The waves break fairly close to the shoreline. The water temperatures generally run in the upper 50s to lower 60s during the winter and spring months. However, during the summer and early fall months, the water temperatures generally range from the mid-60s to the low-70s.

Here are some links to surf and ocean temperature forecasts that you can use:

San Clemente beaches are accessible by Metrolink Trains.
You can travel there and back for $10 on weekends.

The beaches are usually full of surfers.
The water temperatures are rarely warm. You'll need a costume.

Those beaches are perfect for surfers and they are accessible by public transportation.
Also, a surfboard can easier fit on a train that on a bus.

If you're a strong swimmer/body-surfer, then I recommend "The Wedge."

But this is ONLY if you are good, and in shape.

Be prepared to get POUNDED there.
