And i'm not speaking as an outsider who bashes on hip hop every time he gets a chance.

I love hip hop, its the music I grew up on, and is still my favorite. But I know a lot of the style is based on crime culture.

I still dress in loose clothing sometimes, but Im not gonna walk around with a shaved head, charlie brown t-shirt and tattoos on my face, because I don't want that kind of attention. Just saying. Cops and gangbangers might target you just for being young and minority.

But Im not saying that to discourage you. Ive never had problems in LA or any other city(except for police). Just be aware.
I feel you it's crazy isn't it? When Hip-Hop first became popular it wasn't about that now it's watered down and commercialized. My mom do not want me to move down there but it's just the feeling of LA when I visit it makes me feel welcomed.

Hey I do not blame you at all.

LA is so beautiful it's so amazing no where in the UNITED STATES can compare to Los Angeles and that's why I love it.

I think LA is very underrated compared to NYC, NYC isn't that cool to me.

No, it is not a good choice for him. He should try El Segundo or Manhattan Beach instead.

If/when you come here just dont act, walk or dress like anyone who is involved in gangs and you should be okay wherever you go. There are some people who wonder why they get harassed and when told its because of how they look and carry themselves they get upset and say things like:

1) "But this is the style of clothes I like, I cant help it that gangs/criminals dress this way too"

2) "I need to show my flavor, and my individuality, so I dress/act/walk/talk like this"

3. "You just stopped me" or "They were sweatin' me because Im black/mexican/or whatever".

The thing is, if your smart and dont dress like the idiots, you wont get treated like the idiots. Its very simple.

There are places that are not good to go irrespective of how you act, walk or dress, particularly at night. They are all poor, slummy areas of LA, our ghettos. Don't go there if you don't have business there, and make it your business to not have business there. I bet half of the bad stuff that happens in LA happens between midnight and 5 a.m. while honest people are home and asleep.

Exactly. And don't hang out with the idiots or where the idiots hang out. Gang bangers are notorious for having bad aim, so mr. smart guy acting, walking and dressing okay standing next to mr. gangsta, and some other banger shoots at gangsta but it's the smart guy whose head explodes.

There is still common sense although it isn't very common anymore. Don't leave home without it!
