We've got our hands on a nice little convertible for the summer late June / early July and are wondering where to go out for rides with the top down and to go see what and what.

Hiking, sight-seeing, good eats, museums, zoos, botanical gardens, large historic estates, hot springs, etc. all are of interest. We're not looking to travel far outside of Southern California, let's say within three hours of downtown or so each way, but might make an exception for something that's stellar and/or has other sights along the way. Also willing to wake up quite early to beat traffic for at least part of the trip if that's what's advisable.

Thanks!

When I lived in SoCal years ago::

Sunset Blvd west to the beach, then head to the Getty Villa museum via PCH. (You’ll drive through Hollywood, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, etc.)

Visit Huntington Library (museum & gardens) in San Marino and then head to Descanso Gardens in La Canada. You’ll be close to Pasadena, which has a nice shopping & dining area, called “Old Town.” Pasadena also has the Norton Simon museum.

Lesser roads that connect Ventura County to interstate 5 and interstate 5 to the high desert. Maybe wine county in Santa Barbara area.

I have a little convertible, and my advice is to do most of your driving early in the morning or late in the evening, stay close to the beach and avoid the desert, because the summer sun beating down on you while you are driving is no fun. I hate to be so negative; I love my convertible (it's a BMW Z4), but I avoid putting the top down in really hot sunny weather.

As previously mentioned. You'll burn up sitting in traffic. Take pch to Santa Barbara and back. That's a nice trip

It's a beautiful ride over to Magic Mountain in the summer. Enjoy riding some rollie coasters.

It's SO hot there in the summer. We went there the first week they reopened in April this year, and already it was hot (and crowded) in the afternoon.

I'd only go up there in the summer for the water park!

Years ago I had a convertible. Mostly had the top up in the summer unless within 15 miles of the coast. Needed to keep the hot sun off. And the AC on. Nowadays you might want windows and a roof in case there is blowing dirt or even debris. And parking? Not anymore since there would be no protection from jealous malcontents.
