Does anyone know when the Griffith Observatory will reopen and why it has not reopened yet, since most other attractions in Los Angeles have reopened by now under COVID-19 guidelines? What problems does the Griffith Observatory have with reopening that other museums and attractions in Los Angeles do not have?

They are probably having a hard time finding minimum wage employees. It takes a lot of them to run that joint

Interesting how Griffith Observatory gets its funding as I remember they don’t charge admission. Maybe except for a few years back in 2007 when they first reopened after four years of tearing it apart and rebuilding.

Since it's free could it be that they just see a silver lining in keep it closed to save $?

Can you actually drive up to the parking lot right now and just walk around?

Statz2K10, you can but watch out for the jaw dropping parking prices now. They raised the parking prices to $10 per hr.

June 15th, Everything will be more open come June 15th.

I was just there in January. Parking AT THE TOP is $20, free-for-all a 1,000 feet below.

Observatory was closed, but "the park" is still open, you can't close God's open sky and the green grass fields.

It could be due to the unique nature of the Observatory itself. Its small (inside) and physical distancing is much more difficult to do than say if you were at LACMA or the Getty. So I think its good that they keep it closed for now. At the Getty, masks must be worn at all times even while walking outside through the garden and anywhere on the grounds. Only time you can remove mask is in designated eating areas. Plus, they are strict on types of masks - no bandanas, scarves, face shields, etc. purporting to be "masks". They do things right there.

You a big fan of the Observatory?

I know that the observation deck of the Gateway Arch in St.Louis has been reopened since September and has remained open under President Biden. That facility is a small, enclosed space. Also, I know that the 102nd floor observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York City has been safely reopened since July 20 last year despite being a small and enclosed space. So, how are things different at the Griffith Observatory compared to the small observation decks at the Empire State Building and Gateway Arch.
