This morning my phone went off playing the typical EAS tone for an SMS regarding COVID-19 and a community health message to get vaccinated immediately. Apparently there's another spike of it in L.A. Anybody see this? Thoughts?

I live in DTLA and didn't get any alert, but turns out I have them turned off which I suggest you do to unless you really want them.

i got one and so did my son. so both of our phones were going off. personally i think it is ridiculous to send this as an emergency alert. sending out texts or emails? yeah...fine. but the alarm going off for this? no.

my opinion is that the EAS should be for true real emergencies; amber or silver alert or terrorist attacks or something like that. telling people to get vaccinated is not a true emergency worthy of sending out that alarm.

my opinion...

To cutiger79's response: My phone is an Android and really doesn't respond well to shutting off notifications (even when you cue it to do so). In fact, I've always had sound and alarm problems since I got it. Google has not addressed this properly. Query it and you'll see that people with the Pixel still struggle with these features. Google seems to straight up ignore these problems.

I was more curious as to the fact as to if and why there was an EAS-type message sent this morning for COVID. It likely was unnecessary but this was the first EAS message I've ever received other than maybe a weather warning or Amber alert while living in Texas.

Interesting you bring this up, because there was never an EAS message issued during the 9/11 attacks but apparently an EBS message was deployed during the LA riots in 1992: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz0AtEx9CIA

Looks like I am in the minority here when it comes to the Public Safety Alert emergency text messages. I think this is a GOOD thing and something that no one should try to opt out of. Public Safety is important, and I'd say a once in a hundred year worldwide deadly pandemic definitely qualifies as something we all need to be informed about.

Cases are rising because morons choosing not to get vaccinated and wearing it like a badge of honor and thinking "Freedom" or "Fauci cant tell me what to do". Idiots. Yes I said it - IDIOTS. Get vaccinated! Wear a mask! Do this so we can all get back to some sense or normalcy.

Except that Fauci is an idiot as well. He should've been out of the game years ago and somehow he's stuck around.

Agreed. Maybe more people will get vaccinated or try to follow the guidelines.

What is it that you are looking for-or think the authorities are looking for- to signal that we've reached a point where we can get back to normal? What is it you think/expect is needed to happen for this? What can vaccinated citizens do that will lead us to this point?
