It's brutal here right now, you will need A/C. I live in Thousand Oaks which is usually cooler than the other valleys but even so, when the heat comes, it hits everyone in So Cal and 90 or 100 isn't that rare. Nine months out of the year you might not need A/C in your car, but those other 3 months will be hell every time you have to go somewhere. We may not have the humidity of other places, but you'll still be wet when you reach your destination.

I NEVER use my a/c no matter what. I just roll down my windows and enjoy the breeze. Putting a sunshield in your car when not in use or parking in the shade helps, too. I wouldn't spend $250 to fix my a/c whether I could afford it or not. And with gas prices the way they are, it will cost waaay mroe than $250 to use use that a/c.

Driving around with the windows down adds drag and costs you money too.

How close to the beaches should people stay? Is Hollywood close enough to the beach (I forgot) to experience cooler temperatures? Hollywood is about 18 miles from Marina Del Rey.

It'll be a lot warmer there than the beach.

if you're more than a few miles from the beach you're probably going to have drastically different temps. im less than 10min from the beach(maybe 3miles?) and its a 5-10degree temp difference because the breeze is that much less
