That area is like totally Moscow. Very very dense Russian population. Go to Plummer park on any given day and if it werent for the signs in english you'd think you were in Moscow. Nice area and there are some very cheap rentals. If you move there, you have to visit Astro Burger and try their double bacon cheesburger - its one of the best in all of LA.

if you're not russian, you will be miserable there. please do not move there unless you wish to be surrounded by the most unfriendliest, moochiest ppl that ever lived on the planet. they suck up all of the welfare and never ever smile when they see you or even move out of the way. they are like the grackles that invaded west hollywood and you just can't get rid of them. i had some friends that lived there for a while. their russian neighbors were always complaining that they were making too much noise at 8:30 at night! it's a whole different culture there in that area.

It sounds like an interesting place. Would a 30-something couple with two small kids do okay in the area? Playground?
We're definitely not a part of the yuppie set and have lived in urban areas before (West Philadelphia, Richmond District of SF, etc.), but we also don't want to get mugged like we did in West Philly.

Hmm, is it worse than the Inner Richmond of SF? People told us that the Inner Richmond was overrun with Russians, but we hardly noticed them at all when were were there, other than the chess playing in Mountain Lake Park.

if you're not russian, they will look at you really funny. i would not recommend plummer park, but west hollywood park would be better for cpl with kids. weho park is betw san vicente & robertson (east & west), sta monica & melrose (north & south), by the "blue whale" design center. plummer park must be at least 90% russian. i'm afraid that i'm not familiar with "inner richmond" area, so i can't compare the two.

I dont know what wehotex means about "they will look at you funny". I go there all the time and definately do not look Russian and have no problems. I do call it "Russian Park" because most people there are Russian but it is not at all a bad area.

My apologies on behalf of my country people to all that have received stink-eye from the residents of the West Hollywood border. I was not immune to it either, despite being Russian, and will say that the classic "eye contact and a smile" are simply not a part of cultural standard in a given case. Generally however, I have noticed that the many surly Russian neighbors I have had (and I have lived in that area for a long time) were rather nice to those neighbors (American or otherwise) who were nice to them.
