What area of LA is considered to be the Russian community? I beleive it was somewhere on Santa Monica? Anyone have pics or info on what the neighborhoods are like? Are there any Russians on this board?

west hollywood, on the eastern edge, and the hollywood neighborhood that borders it. lots of apartment buildings, many of them older ones; safe-enough; poor schools; traffic congestion on the major thoroughfares before 10am and after 3pm; poor freeway access.

Agree with all of the above, as well as, some parts of Glendale and NoHo, too.

Man LA has EVERYTHING! I wish I could get my Russian wife to move out there but she says that last year when we went for vacation the smog and traffic gave her too much of a headache. I told her we could always stock up on Advil! I'll just to stick to vacations out in SOCAL.

I work with a few Russian women. They handle the smog and traffic just fine. :-)

The traditional epicenter of the Russian community in LA is a stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard, roughly between Poinsettia and Crescent Heights. There you will generally see lots of Russian signs for shops, doctor's offices and other businesses. The residential areas around there are somewhat mixed: lots of apartment buildings and some smaller single family houses, the rents are somewhere between $1500 - 2200 for 1 bedroom apartments, depending on how nice the place is. In the West, starting at about Fairfax and closer to Crescent Heights, the area merges with what's traditionally considered the center of the gay and lesbian community, the heart of West Hollywood with lots of restaurants and clubs on Santa Monica Boulevard, very big-city-like, and rather active at night. The surrounding residential areas are terrific, beautiful houses, great well-taken care of apartment buildings. Rents there are quite unpredictable and on the higher side, I would assume starting at about 2000 or so.
All of the above is very subjective observations, and the rent prices are best double checked on craigslist.com, but i know the area very well as I have lived there for 15 years.

There are quite a few Russians in the Glendale area and you can find Russian items in the grocery stores.
