Hubby and I visited Lompoc this week for 3 days. Realtor took us out on Wednesday to show us some of the area.
Lompoc can get very windy and cold but a sweater or jacket warms you up. I found the town to be clean and enchanting. I did go into a Von's grocery store on Oceano and that was one of the oldest grocery stores I have ever been in and the patrons and cashiers looked run down. I mean no disrespect by this statement.

Calcausian is definetely a minority in this town. I saw several homeless people. We used our credit card three times, once at Motel, once at restaurant and once at gas station. Our credit card number was stolen and someone in Nigeria tried to use it for $900. Thankfully, credit card company did not accept charges but downside we had to use our remaining cash for gas to drive home since credit card company placed a hold on our card.

We love Lompoc for its culture, for its small town atmosphere, we just felt comfortable there. We did take a drive to Grover, Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Atascadero, Templeton and we did not recognize most of these towns, they all changed over the 20 years we were there last.

We are hoping to sell here in Arizona and move to Lompoc. I will keep you posted. California Here I come, right back where I started from!!!

Oh my. I'm really sorry to hear that you had that experience but I'm very glad to hear you didn't let it change your mind. When I lived there, right next to the Von's you were talking about is a really nice sushi bar. On the other end of town, there's an Albertson's and a FoodsCo. So you're not stuck with Von's. Good Luck with your move, I hope you enjoy Lompoc as much as I did.

funny. i've been to lompoc once about 12 years ago (lived in L.A. for about 16 years now), and that sushi bar is about the only thing i remember from there. it was actually pretty good, at least that's what i thought at the time. i remember thinking how strange it was that there was this good sushi place in the middle of no where.

the only other thing i remember from lompoc was going to the beach - rocky but nice - and seeing a BBQ vendor selling what looked like really awesome tri-tip sandwiches.

hope you get to where you want to go! enjoy!

I recently moved back to Lompoc (lived in LA for 11 years). I just wanted to mention that yes the Vons on Ocean is really run down, but they've re-done the Vons on H Street and it is gorgeous, with a Starbucks inside. Also, there's two other sushi places in Lompoc but the best one is on Ocean.. it's called Sushi Teri.
