Still a few questions: what area of Pasadena would you recommend me for my price range? I'd like to be able to walk/bike to go to a cafe/shopping/restaurant like I would do in France. Is South Pasadena still Pasadena?

so. pas is a whole nother city. if you want to be close to shops and such you can stay close to "old town", the paseo both on colorado blvd. or lake st., but i think you might be referring to old town when your speak of sidewalk cafes.
another good place to look at is eagle rock, which is more affordable than pas, and has a growing cafe/boutique scene, its just not as established/concentrated as pasadena.

check thes places out and good luck, but i highly recommend pasadena. for 6 months. 3 years or for longer.

You can find a nice house for 3k a month...no problem. With all the rentals on the market it has pushed rent prices for houses down.

I would not buy in Old Town yet.

Just came from France (Provence) and found the French delightful!

We just moved here, you could check the Boston Centenial building, we like it so far. (35 N Raymond) on Colorado.

He he...my husband thinks he is communting to Seal Beach on his bike, I can't wait to hear all about that.

There are a few threads on the glories of living in Pasadena! But just to give you a brief word of advice, I would say to stay south of the 210 frwy.

Pasadena, South Pasadena and San Marino have a lot to offer. You will easily find a great little house in your price range. If you like being able to walk to shopping areas/restaurants, etc I would suggest living in/near Old Town or near Lake Avenue.

And I would agree with the others who have stated not to buy...hold off until the market becomes more stable and you get a better sense of where you truly would want to purchase.

Check out the rentals on realtor.com. The sweet spot is two to three blocks north and south of colorado, east of pasadena, west of Arroyo Pkwy.

I still think the best apartments are Del Mar Station and Holly Street Village. Brookmore is susbstantially cheaper, but parking is a huge pain, and I think the elevator is a little scary looking. There are a few condos for rent too, but the super cool ones tend to be above 3k.

But you are still in a very healthy price point for renting in Pasadena.
