whats up all -

two buddies of mine and i just graduated from school in chicago and are moving out to LA this summer. we're all writers at heart and figure it's more worth it than not to try the city on for size and crack the not-so-candy-coated shell of the entertainment industry.

anyway, the three of us are most likely going to hold down menial, unfulfilling part time jobs while we pursue this illusive pot of gold dream, so we're not gonna have much money. so what's the best place for us to look in or near the greater hollywood area that is friendly to twenty-somethings and relatively cheap?

thanks guys

what, to your mind, is "relatively cheap"?

well i'm paying $1950 for a 3 bedroom right now. to me, that's relatively cheap for chicago, but not for LA. i'm willing to say that $2,200 or $2,300 is a reasonable perception of "relatively cheap" for LA.

if you wanted two bedrooms, you would be in great shape and could live practically anywhere you liked. however, a three bedroom will be hard to swing, because 3BR apartments just aren't that common here, and where one finds them, you probably don't want to live. most people wanting a third bedroom find that they have to rent a house, or half a duplex. for that, you'll need $2800-$3000, at the low end.
