Myself and a friend are thinking of moving to LA next year but would like to get some advice before we do.

Having only been there on holiday a few years ago, we would like some advice on the best place to live and roughly what the living costs would be.

Any advice would be appreciated and if you think its worth us looking into other places to live.

Many thanks

Why do you want to move to Los Angeles? What is the source of information that drives your desire to move to LA?
What line of work are you in?
Where do you expect to work?
What is your budget for housing?

Default SandyCo?

SandyCo, Can't we put up a sticky focused on "Moving to LA" that the locals can edit/contribute?

How long are you planning to be in LA? (What visa type are you getting, as this will dictate whether you have a maximum duration of stay or not.). This may then have a bearing on the advice given here - buy vs. rent etc.

I agree. I think it would be very helpful.

I'm open to this idea, but we need some parameters. Otherwise I can see that thread becoming 500 posts long in no time! L.A. is a huge place, encompassing several different cities/areas in one megalopolis. The advice would have to be very generic, and not specific to anyone's particular situation.

It would be good if the sticky could include advice for would-be actors. Here is the one I am thinking of: //www.city-data.com/forum/3446590-post23.html It was so good and covered so many facets.

SandyCo, How about posting it as a locked sticky? The information written is very good. People can continue to post unanswered questions as usual.
