basically i'm goin to stay with a friend in carlsbad and it's substantially cheaper to fly to LAX rather than San Diego and i was wondering what the easiest/cheapest way off getting to his house in Carlsbad was? he unfortunately can;t pick me up and i've looked into and can;t see too many public transport options, anyway, thanks in advance... Ross

One thought is to take a bus or cab to Union Station in downtown LA and take the train to the station in downtown Carlsbad.

catch Fly-Away Bus @ LAX $6 each way to Union Station. Depending on time you can take Amtrak to Carlsbad stations -may only have 2 runs a day. Or take Metrolink runs on half hour to Oceanside station, switch to Coaster to get to next 2 Carlsbad stops whichever is closer to your friend(Carlsbad Station or Poinsettia Station). FYI - it is cheaper to fly domestic & international from LAX. Opt - Leave auto at Oceanside parking lot (free wkdy & wkends & long term). Take metro link (about 2hrs) to L.A. Union Station approx $23 adult @AAA rate (but can only get rate online or purchase at self-serve train kiosk). Take Fly-Away Bus (tour motor coach) $6 ea wy to LAX (runs every 8mins). We did this route recently from our place in Carlsbad to LAX for Non-Stop to Montego Bay w/AirJamaica Tour (Hubby/Wife/4yrOld). Excellent. Better than layovers & long waits in airports. Both train & bus have toilets, A/C & comfortable, + train has food car & fantastic views from upstairs as it cruises alongside Pacific Ocean; added entertainment not added hassle. We'll always go this way!!!
