I am From Argentina (Buenos Aires) and I am going to work at the Beckman research institute (City of Hope) in Duarte, CA. I am going to stay for two months.
I've been already there and I know that Duarte is a difficult place if you don't have a car.
It is important to me, in my free time, some places to walk, shopping, coffes and have fun. So i think could be better to rent something in Pasadena and travel to work by BUS.
I need you advice cause the prices of some places are very high and other are share rooms and i want some privacy for me. I will need a place where I can smoke without complains and with Wi Fi access.
My problem is that for example some of these places are about 2000 dollars per month and it's too much in Argentina.
Somebody knows about a studio or hotel room that will cost me like 1000 per month and near to cool places?? If anybody can help me, thanks in advance.

temporary apartments are expensive. if you can't sign a long-term lease, or find a place that offers month-to-month tenancies (which doesn't mean that the landlord wants to hear in advance that you plan to move in two months), you'll pay a premium. if you want the lower cost of a rented room, then you will sacrifice privacy, and have to live by someone else's house rules. i'm sorry, but there's no having it both ways.

i'm not sure why you think the cost in argentina is relevant. this isn't argentina.

There is a hotel called Homestead, on the border between Monrovia and Arcadia. It isn't a bad price, and it's a safe location with things to do nearby. Also you get a kitchenette in your room, which is helpful for keeping food costs down.

There are plenty of cheap motels on East Colorado in Pasadena. You could get a room there for not much more than $1000/month. I don't have any specific recommendations there, but at least it's a place to start looking.

Default thanks

in advance for you honesty. May be i can´t find a place like I wanted. And you are right. There is always a rooms share possible.
I thought you may knew some cheaper hotels or something like that.
Well for me is very relevant cause in Argentina 4000 dollars are to much. I know you don't care but I do cause it cost me a lot to get that money for doing research in this country and my founds are from a Grant.
Probably most of you don't care about our situation, but thanks anyway for you time.
Take care
